Cherlyn Tefera: 1.The word "Islam" itself means "Submission to Allah." Islam teaches us that this life is a life of worship.2.Allah is God. In Arabic, we call God 'Allah'. 3.Muslims are followers of Islam, Prophet Muhammad and Submit themselves to God.4.Prophet Muhammad was the last messenger of Islam.5. Muslims do not worship Muhammad, but following his teachings.6.Jesus is a Prophet in Islam. 7.There are five Pillars of Islam.Shahadah: sincerely reciting the Muslim profession of faithSalat: performing ritual prayers in the proper way five times each dayZakat: paying an alms (or charity) tax to benefit the poor and the needySawm: fasting during the month of RamadanHajj: pilgrimage to Mecca8.In Islam, Muslims are only allowed to worship God. Muslims are forbidden to worship idols/people.9.Islam has two major religious festivals. They are âId-al-Fitr, and âId al-Adha. âId al-Fitr, more commonly called âId, is celebrated at the end of the month of Ramadan-the ninth ! month of the Islamic calendar. âId al-Adha is celebrated at the end of the Hajj-the religious pilgrimage. Ramadan and the Hajj are not really festivals, but are basic duties of all Muslims. Some of the other Islamic holidays are Lailatul Qadr (The Night of Power), Milad-an-Nabi (Birthday of the Prophet), Lailatul Baraâat (Night of Deliverance), Lailatul Miâraj (The Night of the Ascent), and Muharram (New Years Day).10.The Muslim woman is accorded full spiritual and intellectual equality with man, and is encouraged to practice her religion and develop her intellectual faculties throughout her life. In her relations with men both are to observe modesty of behavior and dress and a strict code of morality which discourages unnecessary mixing of the sexes. Her relations with her husband should be based on mutual love and compassion. He is responsible for the maintenance of the wife and children, and she is to give him the respect due to the head of the family. She is respon! sible for the care of home and the children's early training. ! She may own her own property, run her own business and inherit in her own right. She may not be married without being consulted and is able to obtain divorce. The system of limited polygamy can be seen to have its uses which may be in the interests of women as well as men. Finally she can look forward to an old age in which she is respected and shown every care by her children and by the society as a whole.Feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions :)Have a good day....Show more
Joie Kemmis: This doesn't make much sense... why would you have a heads up on your final? I have a feeling you're being lazy. None the less...here it goes: 1) It's a religion2) Allah is God--it literally means "the one God".3) A Muslim is a believer of Islam. One who believes there is only one God and submits him self to him.4) Muhammad was a prophet. He was THE prophet and founder of Islam.According to Islamic belief, the Prophet Muhammad was the last Messenger of God. He, like al! l of God's prophets and messengers - such as Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus -- was only a human being.5) Muslims STRIVE to follow the great example of Muhammad, peace be upon him, but they DO NOT worship him in any way.6) Muslims respect and revere Jesus. They consider him one of the greatest of God's prophets and messengers to humankind. A Muslim never refers to him simply as "Jesus", but always adds the phrase "upon him be peace." The Qur'an confirms his virgin birth, and a special surah of the Qur'an is entitled "Mary." 7) You mean the 5 pillars of Islam? if so, these are the 5 duties expected/demanded of all Muslims. They are1) Profession of faith2) Ritual Prayer3) Alms giving4) Fasting during Ramadan5) Pilgrimage to Mecca8) You wash your hands and feet, use a clean cloth or rug and kneel there and that's where you worship. Again, role does it play in Islam? a big role- considering that it is one of the 5 pillars.9) Here's a link that will show you the festivals:http://! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Islamic_fest...10) A woman is given the ! role of a mother; a role that Islam gives the highest respect to after Allah. People who disobey their mothers are held in Godâs eyes as the worst type of sinners. Such is the place of women in the eyes of Allah. She is a "rehmat" or the bringer of fortune and joy in the form of a daughter. And she is a wife; companion to man in all his social, physical and economic endeavours. A woman is no commodity or slave but an equal to man in all spheres of life. She is in no way compelled to subjugate her will to the will of a man if she has the right stance. Thus, the examples of women supression that we see in Middle Eastern countries are extreme misinterpretations of what Islam actually states about the due place of women in an islamic society. In Islam the basis of submission is not that women are submitting to men, but that men and women together submit to God. So therefore, when you read the passages of the Quran, it becomes very clear that the obedient from among both the b! elieving men and women receive paradise, which is the greatest aim and objective in a Muslim's life....Show more
