Vegetarians? pale skins? i thought vegetarian is a healthy diet?

August Hubbard: Do basic research TROLL

Betsey Copp: Just because you're pale doesn't mean you're lacking in iron - some people are just pale because that's their genetic makeup. Iron deficiency is just as common in non-vegetarians as it is in vegetarians, and is usually due to blood loss from things like stomach ulcers and very commonly from menstruation, not from diet. It's an age old problem, even in the old days women would be told to boil rusty nails and drink the water as an iron supplement and they weren't vegetarians. If you've ever heard of a fainting couch, that's where it came from - women used to pass out all the time from anemia before supplements and fortified foods became common. If you've never had a problem with anemia in the past, a vegetarian diet likely won't make you anemic. But if you've had problems with it in the past then a supplement is not a bad idea....Show more

Carmina Stickney: Not all vegetarians have pale skin. I have had fair s! kin before going vegetarian, and still do now. Just b/c someone has pale skin/fair skin, it does not mean they are unhealthy.Vegetarians do not have to lack iron. There are many iron rich vegetarian foods. There is nothing in meat that cannot be obtained from a vegetarian source. Some people have unhealthy vegetarian diets, the same as some people have unhealthy omnivore diets. Yes, there are french fry, and pizza eating, junk food vegetarians, but there are also french fry and pizza eating, junk food omnivores.A balanced diet is the key to any healthy diet. A person needs the same nutrients as an omnivore or vegetarian. The difference is where the nutrients are obtained. It does not matter if you get your iron from broccoli, or chicken, as long as you are getting the proper amount....Show more

Rosann Mccomb: lol it's called eating healthy. most people are pale because they're born that way. it has nothing to do with their diet..

Geraldo Mccalla: Vegetarians are! often a lot healthier than people who eat meant, because they! tend to eat better in general. You can get the protein and other vitamins that most people get from meat from other foods, such as beans. You can also take supplements to get more vitaminsMeat doesn't give your skin pigment, fyi.

Donte Hamme: It's perfectly safe to be a vegetarian. I've been a vegetarian for my whole life. You do need to make sure you get enough protein though.

Garrett Detone: I'm a vegetarian, and yes, you can be healthy, you just have to watch watch you eat. You can take pills for protein and iron, I do that as much as I can. I also eat nuts, soy, beans, and anything with dairy in it as a source of protein on top of eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. The thing is, a lot of vegetarians I know just eat anything they please (other then meat) and often develop unhealthy diets. My brother's girlfriend is a perfect example of that, the last time she went to the doctor, they told her she has high cholesterol from eating pizza and pasta all th! e time. However, my room mate and I are both vegetarians and we always make sure to consume protein every day and not to just eat a bunch of junk food. Hope that helped!...Show more

Ronnie Sardi: Here's a little secret. People living in America are so surrounded with the meat-eating diet that when people turn vegetarian, they don't know what to do...they don't know what to eat...their instincts can't kick in due to what media and gov't have on display. People struggle to find out "what should I be eating?" until they do research. Non-meat eating diets are very healthy as long as you eat properly. With a bit of research, patience and experimenting, that can easily be achieved....Show more

Len Dalba: 1. Are there cost advantages or disadvantages to living a vegetarian lifestyle? - I spend significantly less at fast food places and restaurants, simply because I tend to not go to them. I've been to fast food places, not counting Subway, three times in the past five ! years. As far as groceries go, my bill is about the same now as it was ! when I was eating mostly Vegetarian junk food. Now I rely on whole foods, vegetables, and fruits. 2. Is a vegetarian diet healthy and safe for everyone? (ie. diabetics, children, etc.) - I think it is, but I am not a diabetic or a child, so I really do not know. 3. What are the best and worst reasons to become a vegetarian? - Best: You will feel better. Worst: The more animal products you give up, the tougher it is to go out with friends and enjoy a meal at a restaurant. 4. Since you've become a vegetarian are you physically healthier and how can you tell? - No. For four years of being a Vegetarian, I was horribly overweight (188+ pounds at 5'3 is not healthy). I ate all the wrong foods. Last year I made a lifestyle change, started eating less processed garbage, and changed my eating habits, and dropped from 165 to 120 in three months. So, now I'm healthier than I've ever been as a Vegetarian. Within the past month of cutting out most processed foods (I don't drink milk [ne! ver really have] and don't eat eggs anymore), I feel a million times better....Show more

Danyell Rowback: Vegetarians can eat a healthy diet or they can eat a very unhealthy diet. I've known several vegetarians (all of them teenagers) who lived on nothing but French fries, pizza and onion rings. Not a good choice of foods. But, on the other hand, any nutritionist who graduated from college in the last 20 years will tell you that the healthiest diet anyone can eat is a low-fat, whole-foods vegetarian diet.Iron is found in leafy vegetables, legumes, tofu and black-eyed peas....Show more
