Saran Stealy: Repeat this question at your local nursery. They'll know about some fool-proof plants and flowers. For fool-proof vegetables, try tomatoes. If they weren't so delicious they'd be thought of as a weed. They thrive under almost any conditions. I once saw one growing in the tiny crack between the sidewalk and a cement building wall. Obviously, it'd planted itself.
