How should I decorate my locker?

Terrell Voltz: Well, it really depends on the locker and the school. If you've never seen a locker in the school or heard about the school policy, you shouldn't really plan too much. There's a possibility that the locker is much much smaller than you imagine it or the school has a rule about what can't go in lockers. Remember, the function of the locker is much more important than the style, so if you find out it's very small, you should probably see if you can fit everything in comfortably before adding anything that takes up a lot of room.Also, you aren't going to spend more than a minute at your locker very often, so there's really no need for any cup holders or magnets to hang up much. A lot of stuff like that you will hang up in the beginning of the year, not use, and take down at the end.Magnets are sometimes prohibited in the lockers. I wouldn't recommend them if they aren't. They can sometimes jam the mechanism that unlocks the locker, so you'll have to go t! o the office, tell them your lockers jammed, they'll unlock it with the skeleton key, and you will be late for your next class (with excuse). This will probably happen to you once or twice anyway when you are in a rush and shove something in that will jam it, but you really don't want to be known in the office as the student with the jammed locker. If you do choose to use magnetic objects, limit them and keep them on the side of the locker the lock is not on.I wouldn't recommend stickers or anything sticky other than clear tape in the locker. They may look good during the year, but they will be pain to get out without leaving marks or some left on.I've never personally decorated my locker, but I've seen some lockers decorated. A mirror is pretty common. A lot of girls have a lot pictures of themselves with friends taped up. You may want to have some sort of storage container that in there that can hold extra pencils, pens, and gum if it's permitted. (Gum was allowed ! in my middle school, and almost everyone had a pack somewhere.! ) A rack in there wouldn't be a bad idea if your locker can fit it. It allows an extra layer for books if you need, but don't buy one before you get so see and measure your locker; it would be a waste if it didn't fit....Show more
