Melissa Lavallie: Go with what the other answers said. Rad flushing is just gravy money for garages. Dont waste your cash.As far as the tranni fluid goes, pull the dipstick out and smell the oil on the end(Yes I said smell it.) If it smells burnt have it changed. You will know if its burnt trust your judjment.
Curt Broadhead: Find a new mechanic. No flushes...ever. Flush him.
Ulysses Failey: Don't get it flushed or change it, if you mess with it all the old junk in their will break loose and your transmission will go out. I work at a transmission shop and we see it everyday, people get their transmission flushed and then we get to rebuild it. It will last a lot longer if you leave it alone, and keep it full. The difference between flush and change is flushing it gets all the fluid out of the converter also, and changing it does nothing because there's still dirty fluid in the converter. Think about it, if you mix 1 quart dirty water with 3 quarts clean water! you get a gallon of dirty water. However, flushing is good for your transmission if you do it every say 20k, but like you said, you don't know it's previous maintenance record....Show more
Joie Libutti: a tranny flush about 85-110 bucks and it's probably first depending on your milage, you want to change it at about 80,000 miles, your radiator if you take the cap off and shine a light down into it, you can see what shape your vanes inside are, if they look clean just change your antifreeze.
Erin Arron: You went to a quick Lube type of shop, didn't you? They are notorious for promoting other cash-relieving jobs on vehicles.Having said that, those two items are actually maintenance items that cars do need. You do need to change (flush) your coolant out every few years, and the same for transmission fluid. $150 each is overpriced and is a cash cow for the quick lube company. If you can't do it yourself, then find a few local garages and get some other quotes. ! Avoid the name brand shops and look for local people, they wi! ll probably get you the best deal. But don't hurry into this. Waiting a few weeks or a few months will not hurt anything, unless you have a current problem with cooling system or transmission. I can't prioritize either one, since I can't tell from your description how bad the fluids are for either system....Show more
Wilbert Shellgren: There is no reason at all to have the radiator flushed if the coolant has been changed on schedule, and little enough reason to flush it if the coolant has not been changed. Drain and fill is plenty.Consult the Passport to Performance that came with the owner's manual for the recommended service schedule, and follow that....Show more
Wilfred Santacruce: Thanks for all of the answers so far everyone. :) My car did not come with maintenance records so I have no idea when this stuff was last changed. I just called for prices and he said they would be $150 each.
