m16/m4 AR-15 picatinny rail?

Darrin Hixenbaugh: Pros:Optics make it easier to aim.I find it's easier to maneuver with a gangster grip.A light makes it easier to identify targets in the dark, and can stun the target long enough to determine if it's a threat.Cons:Makes the weapon heavier and adding too much junk can make it front heavy....Show more

Gennie Shauer: Changing the hand guards in itself does not really affect the weapon. Try to keep the weapon as light as possible without a whole lot of doo dads and crap hanging all over it.What are your plans/purpose for your rifle? I see a lot of civilian rigs with all kinds of garbage attached to their rifle that just makes it heavy and clumsy. An Eotech on a flat top receiver and a An/Paq 4 laser on the hand guards is all I needed or wanted....Show more

Karey Dunken: As the others said... you need to keep an eye on the weight. Keep in mind that the picatinny rail system will add weight to your rifle in of itself. If you have a plastic system! , it will add less weight, but you run the risk of breaking, go with metal and it will weigh more and will not break... personally I go with the metal ones since breaking is worse than a little more weight.I had a front pistol grip and a sure fire light. Those were all I needed. If you are preparing to go over... be careful about gadgets that you add. Especially if you are a fobbit, don't get anything. Everybody made fun of those with fobbit weapons. You know, had their own personal rails, gadgets on all 4 sides of their rails, personal red dot or Acogs scopes... and a bought camo-pattern dust cover to keep dust out of their magazine well... and they were 3rd shop mechanics. Amazingly we had several mechanics that never (no exaggeration) went outside the wire, but had all sorts of gear on their weapons and the rifleman's vest hanging in their rooms, meanwhile, the mechanics that went on every convoy had none of that gear....Show more
